Northfield, IL (July 22, 2021) – To celebrate their 71st birthdays and raise money for charity, Jim LeMonds and Bob Horness plan to attempt a 71-mile mountain bike ride at the end of July.
The duo both turn 71 in August and have been planning and training for this ride for the past two years. Altogether, the trek will be made in three legs and they estimate it to take around 13-15 hours to complete.
LeMonds, who lives in Castle Rock, CO, has dedicated his ride to his longtime friend and college roommate Mick Spane, who passed away in August 2020 from pancreatic cancer.
Horness has dedicated his ride to Paul Schublin, a close friend who he served with in Vietnam who is currently battling leukemia.
The duo has selected five preferred charities for donations. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the Leukemia Research Foundation are two of the charities that directly relate to those that the ride is dedicated to. They have also selected the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research, the Clatskanie Senior Center, and the Friends of the Castle Rock Library as other options.
