A 350 mile journey

Meet Ricky, a supporter from Glenluce Scotland. On February 28, he embarked on a journey to make the best of his Covid 19 lockdown in the UK. He set up a fundraiser on his Facebook page and decided to walk 600,000 steps to support the Leukemia Research Foundation.

"I’ve always wanted to do something for leukemia research after losing my mother at a young age of 46". So, joining the fight against all blood cancers was an easy choice.

“I saw a lot of people doing the 300,000 steps in March and it’s made me decide I want to do something for a charity I hold dear to me. Since I was in the right mood for it I decided to double the target to 600,000 in March averaging 20,000 a day. As everyone knows I’m on a health kick just now so I would like to put it to good use!"

He posted frequent updates on his progress for both steps and fundraising with photos of his mileage and his thanks to donors.

By the end of March, he had exceeded his 600,000-step goal and was able to raise nearly $2,300 for the Leukemia Research Foundation.

“So I finally reached the end of my step challenge and the feet are officially on holiday! Managed a total 727,000 steps and total 351 miles walked. Thanks to everyone for their donations.”

The Leukemia Research Foundation deeply appreciates Ricky’s dedication as he walked no matter the weather with the “usual challenges of Scottish weather in having all the seasons in one day”.

Ricky is “still walking and running as well as setting new challenges every day but feel like I’ve gave something back to a charity close to home”. He can also boast of his 22 lb. weight loss too!

You can use the power of Facebook to fight blood cancers, too. Facebook charges no fees for donations made to non-profits and it is easy to share with your friends and family. Click here to get started or learn more about fundraising for the Leukemia Research Foundation on Facebook.
