Nicole remembers her Father for her first 5k

For my first 5k, I wanted to run for a cause that was close to my heart. My dad was diagnosed with Stage 3 Multiple Myeloma cancer in the Spring of 2013. He fought the battle by getting chemotherapy but was unfortunately not strong enough for a stem cell treatment. He spent countless trips to the ER and we spent most of our holidays in the hospital that year. But he remained a happy man whose faith kept him going even at the worst of times. He eventually had kidney failure and started dialysis. By May of 2014, the cancer had spread to his brain. He passed on May 21, 2015 at age 71. While he fought a long hard battle, there is still not a cure for Multiple Myeloma. I know a cure will not help my Dad, but he would want to further research to help those who have also been diagnosed with this cancer.
